The Grand Hyatt San Antonio opened on 22 March 2008 and is the third Hyatt hotel to open in the city and the twelfth across the state of Texas. The hotel is situated downtown alongside the San Antonio River Walk and is adjacent to the Henry B Gonzalez Convention Center. The new 1.5 million square foot, 37-storey hotel has 1,003 rooms, including 63 suites. The hotel also has underground parking for 600 cars.

The hotel is geared towards conference business with 115,000ft² of indoor and outdoor meeting space that can accommodate up to 3,600 guests. There is a 32,000ft² main ballroom as well as a 21,000ft² junior ballroom and 29 smaller breakout rooms.

The hotel offers 24-hour concierge service, on-site business centre, express check-in and check-out kiosks, VIP check-in options and Fast Board kiosks for guests to print their own airline boarding passes.

There is also a fully equipped 24-hour Stay Fit@Hyatt gym with Life Cycle equipment and a heated outdoor lap-pool with an adjacent sundeck. Health facilities also incorporate a full service spa.

Restaurants at the hotel include the 350-seat Achiote River Café with a ‘Pan Latino’ menu (offering Mexican, South and Central American cuisine) and an open kitchen. The striking Bar Rojo has a tile and marble décor and a central chandelier, ‘El Corazon’, made of red glass. The bar offers a full range of cocktails and a light menu. There is also a Perks Coffee shop serving coffee and pastries and a 24-hour general shop for newspapers, books and candy.

The Grand Hyatt San Antonio offers a variety of deluxe guestrooms over 24 floors, including 63 suites. All of the rooms have pillow-top Hyatt Grand Beds, a 32in flat screen television with digital video-on-demand and premium cable services. There are also iHome alarm clocks, oversized workstations with both high-speed wired and wireless internet access, a chaise lounge and luxury bathroom finished in imported white granite.

There are six penthouse units in the building with stairways to a private rooftop cabana and deck. The condominiums will have their own private entrance separate to the hotel but residents will be able to make use of hotel facilities.

CONTRACTORS

The Architect of Record project was Arquitectonica International Corp of Miami and the associate architect was Kell Muñoz of San Antonio. The hotel developer, designer and builder was FaulknerUSA of Austin, Texas. The interior design was by Looney and Associates. The hotel is owned partly by FaulknerUSA and also by Marathon Real Estate and Hyatt as the consortium Hotel Investments, LP, which rents the land from the City of San Antonio.
