The Spanish government has ordered closure of all hotels in its territory in an effort to contain the spread of coronavirus (Covid-19).

Spain’s Ministry of Health published a new regulation in an extraordinary Official State Gazette (BOE) notice within the framework of the declaration of the State of Emergency declared this month due to the impact of the Wuhan virus.

In the new rule, which is set to come into force today, the preventive measure is established for all hotels and similar accommodation, tourist accommodation, among others.

Within a week, all hotels and similar tourist accommodation will close as a complement to the precautionary measures introduced to stem the spread of the virus.

Long-stay accommodation with necessary infrastructure for residents can remain open.

The government declared a state of emergency on 14 March, as the country became the second-worst affected nation in the European Union.
