The 12 Apostles Hotel and Spa is located between the Atlantic coast and 12 Apostles mountain range, 3.8km from Camps Bay, Cape Town. The luxury five-star boutique hotel can be reached in 15 minutes by travelling along coastal roads from Cape Town. In 2009 it was named Best City Hotel in Africa and the Middle East by readers of Travel and Leisure magazine.
The original structure was built in 1929 and the building was a gabled house until 1995. In March 2002 Red Carnation Hotel Collection bought the hotel and renamed it The 12 Apostles Hotel and Spa. A major renovation of rooms, suites, restaurants, bars and meeting rooms was completed in 2006. A new spa facility was also built.

The hotel offers 55 deluxe guest rooms and 15 suites. It has two restaurants, a live music bar, a 16-seat cinema hall, a theme-park style grotto and a spa with treatment rooms. The meeting and function facilities can accommodate up to 90 people.
Accommodation
Rooms are decorated in contemporary African style. Each room has 24-hour room service, individual air- conditioning, entertainment areas with DVD players and plush bathrobes and slippers.
Rooms are available in four categories: classic rooms, mountain-facing rooms, luxury rooms and superior sea-facing rooms. Classic rooms have en-suite bathrooms, while mountain-facing rooms have private balconies that allow guests to view the 12 Apostles mountains.
Luxury rooms are more spacious and offer views of the mountains and sea. Rooms on the ground floor have a private patio and upper-floor rooms feature private balconies with en-suite facilities. Superior sea-facing rooms have split-level open-plan rooms. The bedrooms and en-suite bathrooms are separated from the lower-level lounge and balcony or patio by three steps.
There are three luxury suites: Garden Suite, One-Bedroom Mountain-Facing and Sea-Facing Suite and Presidential Suite. Garden Suite has a private garden, flower-filled patio and open-air Jacuzzi. The rooms are decorated in colonial style. Other features include a lounge with a separate bedroom, bathroom and toilet.
As its name suggests, One-Bedroom Mountain-Facing and Sea-Facing Suites offer views of the sea and mountains. It also has a separate lounge and bedroom, a large bathroom and a separate toilet. Presidential Suite has a master bedroom and a second room that can be accessed from the large open-plan lounge or dining room, and a kitchenette. It also features two bathrooms, two toilets and a wrap-around balcony.
Dining facilities
Dining venues at the hotel include the Azure restaurant, Leopard Room bar and a café. Azure offers a variety of dishes including meat, seafood and vegetarian options. It also provides a movie menu for guests who want to eat dinner and watch a film. Leopard Room features 72 varieties of Martini and a selection of flavoured vodkas. It also sells fine cognacs and cocktails and snacks such as chocolate brownies, cream scones, sandwiches and tea and coffee.
The spa
The 12 Apostles Hotel and Spa was named Best Spa Hotel in Africa and the Middle East in a 2009 survey by Travel and Leisure magazine.
The hotel’s Sanctuary Spa has seven treatment rooms. It is managed by The Sanctuary Group. A range of treatments is available including Swedish massage, reflexology and hydrotherapy, body wraps, fynbos exfoliation, manicures and pedicures. Guests also have access to a fitness centre, hot and cold plunge pools, a sauna and hydrotherapy baths.
Recreation
The 12 Apostles Hotel and Spa offers various indoor and outdoor activities. It organises helicopter tours, mountain treks, park walks and scuba diving. A range of packages is available for children and adults.
