The global travel & tourism industry noticed a 0.6% rise in IT hiring activity in August 2022 over the previous month, led by The Walt Disney’s 12.7% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The travel & tourism industry’s overall hiring activity increased 2.65% when compared with July 2022.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 3.7% share of the global travel & tourism industry’s hiring activity in August 2022, down 0.23% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of August 2022 were 6.8% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 14.19% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 51.67% emerged as the top IT occupation in the travel & tourism hiring activity in August 2022, a 2.89% growth over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 22.85% in August 2022, up 15.45% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 10.31% share in August 2022, a growth of 9.13% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with a 9.68% share in August 2022 and a rise of 22.28% over July 2022.
Top five travel & tourism companies by recruitment activity in August 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 5.15% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global travel & tourism industry during August 2022 over July 2022.
The Walt Disney posted 324 IT jobs in August 2022 and registered a drop of 22.67% over the previous month, followed by Bally’s with 187 jobs and a 163.38% growth. A.P. Moller – Maersk with 165 IT jobs and Deutsche Bahn with 88 jobs, recorded a 1.79% decline and a 7.32% rise, respectively, while Booking Holdings recorded a 30.36% rise with 73 job postings during August 2022.
Regional composition of IT hiring in travel & tourism industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global travel & tourism IT hiring activity in August 2022 with a 49.27% share, which marked a 2.86% rise over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 31.2%, registering a 23.03% month-on-month growth. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 16.31% share and a 12.05% drop over July 2022.
In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 1.92% and a month-on-month rise of 75%. South & Central America stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 1.29%, registering a 135.71% increase over the previous month.
