IHG Hotels & Resorts has partnered with Apple to launch AirPlay in hotel rooms, enabling guests to share content from their iPhone or iPad to their guest room TV.
The collaboration aims to provide convenience and a friction-free service for guests. AirPlay will be gradually introduced in select IHG hotels worldwide by the end of 2023.
Improved connectivity and personalised entertainment options
IHG is the first hospitality company to integrate AirPlay into its offerings. The technology allows guests to scan a unique QR code on their room’s TV, effortlessly enjoying a personalised entertainment experience.
With a strong emphasis on privacy and security, AirPlay enables guests to stream, control and share videos, photos, music and more from their iPhone or iPad to the large screen of their hotel room TV.
This feature enables guests to watch popular streaming services, including Apple TV+, view vacation photos, rehearse presentations and much more, all within the comfort of their hotel room.
George Turner, chief commercial and technology officer at IHG Hotels & Resorts, expressed his excitement about the partnership with Apple, commenting:

By GlobalData“Working together with Apple to introduce AirPlay to our IHG studio platform later this year marks another significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to enhance the guest experience.
“This technology will provide seamless connectivity and personalised entertainment options. Whether traveling for business or leisure, our guests can now enjoy the convenience of streaming directly from their iPhone or iPad to our in-room technology, creating a home-away-from-home environment like never before.”
IHG Studio, launched in 2019, has already transformed the in-room guest experience by offering a wide range of entertainment, communication and streaming functionalities.
Growing demand for enhanced entertainment options
The demand for streaming services has witnessed significant growth, with 85% of US households having at least one video streaming subscription. IHG recognises this trend and aims to cater to guests’ preferences by providing seamless streaming capabilities during their hotel stays.
The streaming industry is projected to reach a value of $330 billion by 2030, underscoring the importance of offering enhanced entertainment options. With AirPlay available in IHG hotel rooms, guests can resume watching their favourite shows and movies right where they left off, without the need to worry about logging out of their accounts when they leave.
