A portion of the historic George Hotel in Huddersfield, Kirklees, UK, is set to be demolished as renovation works continue ahead of the property’s reopening under the Radisson brand, the BBC reported.
The George Hotel is a Grade II listed property originally built in 1851 and the demolished portion will make space for an extension to accommodate 91 guestrooms of the hotel.

Upon completion, the new property will be named Radisson Red, one of Radisson’s boutique hotels and is scheduled to open next year.
According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the former building, which faces St George’s Square, will be renovated and the facade of the hotel along John William Street will be preserved. However, a new structure will replace the current internal layout.
The demolished portion of the building, a three-block structure facing the train station, is claimed to be unimportant historically.
The BBC further reported that this demolished structure will be restored by a similar-sized block featuring stone colours similar to other parts of the building.
