Nova Hotel Renovation & Construction (Nova HRC) has announced the completion of renovation works at Hollywood’s first five-star hotel, the Christie Hotel.

Renovation of the eight-storey Georgian Revival building, which was designed by the architect Arthur R. Kelly, was part of a major project aimed at preserving classic Hollywood.

Opened in 1922, the hotel featured steeply pitched gable roofs, spectacular vistas of Hollywood, steam heat and private bath in every guestroom, while its Greenwich Village Cafe acted as a gathering spot for filmmakers and actors.

The hotel is located in the centre of Hollywood Boulevard and general contractor Nova HRC has rebuilt the property from its shell.

The construction firm has also restored the hotel’s exterior facade to its previous glory while reusing period components, including the balustrade of the grand stairs.

As part of the project, the company has implemented new decor including modern seismic retrofitting, created additional space, built elevators and all new mechanical, electrical, plumbing, roofing, doors, windows, as well as fire protection.

Nova HRC executive VP Simone Azzam said that the Christie Hotel’s architectural features are a throwback to an era of prosperity and optimism.

"We are pleased to have taken part in this preservation," Azzam added.

Nova HRC has previously undertaken preservation and restoration work for properties including an 18th Century English sandstone manor located in East Grinstead, UK, the 1926 Fort Harrison Hotel in Clearwater, the 1930 Ramona Hotel in Sacramento, a 19th Century Cigar factory in Ybor City, and a 19th century schoolhouse in Nashville.
