Margaritaville has announced the opening of the Margaritaville Hotel San Diego Gaslamp Quarter in San Diego, California, marking the brand’s first city-centre location on the West Coast region of the US.

Following the nearly $30m renovation, the property is now claimed to be a “distinctly Southern Californian take on the Margaritaville experience”.

Margaritaville Hotel San Diego Gaslamp Quarter general manager Jim Hollister said: “After much dreaming and planning, we are delighted to formally open our doors and introduce Margaritaville Hotel San Diego to the Gaslamp Quarter.

“With our signature ‘no worries’, easy-going vibes and welcoming service, we look forward to bringing this unique style of hospitality to our beloved city of San Diego.”

The hotel features 235 guestrooms and suites with hues mimicking the sea, sand and sky, evoking casual luxury.

Its design provides a vintage beach bungalow aesthetic with surfboards hung on the walls.

The hotel’s lobby is reminiscent of Baja California with a Mission style, featuring the use of raw materials such as stucco and concrete, custom hand-made furnishing and creative artworks from Mexican artists.

The design, extending right from the lobby into the halls and common spaces, is influenced by singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett’s Laurel Canyon days.

It also provides two special suites, the Jimmy Buffett Suite and Nothin’ But Breeze Suite, which have direct access to the hotel’s pool deck.

With an adaptable floorplan of 13,000ft², the hotel boasts nine event spaces, consisting of 7,000ft² of outdoor space and 6,000ft² of indoor space.

It is a short walk from some of the city’s attractions, including the San Diego Convention Centre, Petco Park and the USS Midway Museum.
