Travelodge has marked its sixth hotel opening in Spain with the inauguration of the Travelodge Madrid Coslada Aeropuerto.
The event was marked with a ceremony attended by key stakeholders, including the mayor of Coslada and Travelodge leadership. The hotel, formerly known as NH Villa De Coslada, Madrid, has undergone a €1m refurbishment to align with Travelodge’s premium standards.
Offering 78 rooms, an on-site restaurant, a bar and a car park, the Madrid Coslada Aeropuerto Travelodge is strategically positioned near major attractions such as the Civitas Metropolitano Stadium, the IFEMA Convention Center and Madrid airport.
Strategic growth amidst rising demand
Research firm Christie & Co forecasts robust growth in Spain’s budget and midscale hotel sector in a recent report.
Travelodge, in collaboration with Christie & Co, has responded to burgeoning demand fuelled by robust tourism and business travel by identifying 20 target markets across Spain.
Although Spain is a global leisure and business destination, the report underscores the under-representation of budget accommodation, with just 6% of hotel rooms falling into the branded economy and midscale segment.

Travelodge is eyeing expansion in Spain’s top 20 key markets. In light of the report’s findings, it sees a significant opportunity for investors in the Spanish midscale and economy hotel market.
With plans to open new hotels in locations including Alicante, Bilbao, Cádiz and Seville, it aims to meet the rising demand for affordable, quality accommodation in both business and tourist hotspots.
Angel Beleño, the company’s general director for Spain, expressed excitement about growth potential, stating: “Spain is the fourth most visited country in the world, and its tourism industry is now an important engine of the Spanish economy. This is creating new opportunities in the Spanish hotel market, especially for the midscale and economy hotel sector, and we want to take this opportunity to bring the Travelodge brand to new business and leisure locations across Spain.”
Results set the stage
Travelodge’s Spanish expansion follows a robust financial performance, coinciding with results for the first half of 2023 and reflecting revenue and profit performance ahead of 2022 levels.
This success underscores the resilience of the UK budget hotel segment and the broad appeal of Travelodge’s quality and value offering across its network of 598 hotels and more than 46,000 rooms.
