Minor Hotels, a Thailand-based hospitality group, has announced plans to expand its footprint in India by opening 50 new properties over the next decade.
The group’s strategy is to focus on the upper-upscale and luxury hotel segments, with a keen interest in developing its brands such as Anantara, Avani, and NH Collection in the region.
Anantara Hotels & Resorts is set to capitalise on its brand offerings by exploring opportunities in Ayurvedic wellness retreats, wilderness lodges, and historical palaces.
This move is aimed at leveraging the brand’s core differentiators to attract a niche market segment.
The company claims that Avani Hotels & Resorts is positioned to address the demand in the lifestyle hotel space throughout India.
Meanwhile, NH Collection Hotels & Resorts will look for upper-upscale conversion opportunities.

By GlobalDataThe company has also spotted potential growth for the upscale NH Hotels & Resorts, especially in tier-two cities and near airport locations across India.
This aligns with Minor Hotels’ objective of tapping into emerging markets and creating new destinations.
Minor Hotels Middle East, Africa and India senior vice president Amir Golbarg said: “We are bullish on the potential of India, and have already been overwhelmed with owner interest, but are proceeding with a ‘partnerships over properties’ approach.
“It means we are being very selective in the hotels that we add to our portfolio, with our focus on cultivating meaningful alliances with partners who align with our values and vision.
“Minor’s strength has always been in our ability to think globally while acting locally, meaning we are well versed at adapting our standards and operations to suit the unique characteristics of each market we operate in – a trait we believe will give us a strong advantage in India.”
To facilitate its expansion, the company opened a new office in Bengaluru and has appointed Vijay Krishnan as vice president for India operations.
This move is expected to bolster the company’s operations and enhance its ability to seize emerging opportunities, particularly in southern India.
In February 2024, Minor Hotels, in collaboration with Funyard Minor JV (China), revealed plans to introduce the Avani Hotels & Resorts brand to the Chinese market.
The Avani Huajian Xinyi Guangdong Resort and Avani+ Xinyi Guangdong Resort are slated to welcome guests in the first half of this year, marking the brand’s entry into China.
