The Coco Palms Resort, a historic Kauai landmark in Hawaii, is set for a grand reopening in 2026 as part of the portfolio of Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, a brand of IHG Hotels & Resorts.

The resort, once a favourite among Hollywood’s elite, is undergoing a culturally sensitive restoration to become a luxury tropical retreat under the name Coco Palms, A Kimpton Resort.

Located in Wailua’s verdant valley, Coco Palms is owned by Reef Capital Partners and will be managed by Highgate.

The resort will feature 350 accommodations, including cottages and low-rise hotel structures, all set amid the island’s stunning natural landscape.

Its restoration pays homage to its storied past and is being carried out with guidance from Native Hawaiian advisers to ensure an authentic cultural experience.

Coco Palms will offer a range of amenities, including a spa, three outdoor pools, and a cultural centre and museum dedicated to Kauai’s heritage.

Guests can look forward to unique dining experiences at the resort’s rooftop bar, pool bar, and restored shoreline restaurant. The resort will also revive the traditional evening torch-lighting ceremony, adding to the immersive guest experience.

IHG Hotels & Resorts SVP and Luxury & Lifestyle Americas managing director Leanne Harwood said: “We are incredibly excited to establish our luxury and lifestyle presence in Hawaii with Coco Palms, A Kimpton Resort.

“Hawaii beckons travellers seeking both relaxation and discovery, and this wholly reimagined resort will welcome not only visitors but also the local community, with unique, culturally respectful experiences all within an inspiring boutique luxury setting. We’re pleased to partner with Reef Capital Partners, who is committed to being responsible stewards of this historic landmark.”

Coco Palms has been closed since it was damaged by Hurricane ‘Iniki in 1992.

The restoration aims to preserve the site’s historical and cultural significance while introducing modern luxuries and conveniences for travellers.

Coco Palms’ guests will have easy access to outdoor activities and the nearby Lihue Airport, enhancing the resort’s appeal as a destination.

Upon its opening, Coco Palms will become Kimpton’s West Coast resort flagship in the Americas, joining the brand’s growing portfolio of luxury resorts worldwide.

Earlier this month, IHG Hotels & Resorts signed an agreement with AXA IM Alts to introduce a new Holiday Inn property in Kyoto, Japan.
