The Rio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, US, has become a part of the Destination by Hyatt brand following the completion of the initial phase of its $340m renovation across the entire property.

This development is also a part of the World of Hyatt loyalty programme and the first Destination by Hyatt hotel in Nevada.

Managed by Dreamscape Companies, Rio is now the largest property in Hyatt’s global hotel portfolio based on room count.

Hyatt Global Franchise Operations senior vice president Mike Waddell said: “We are proud to welcome the new Rio Hotel & Casino to our Destination by Hyatt brand portfolio, celebrating Hyatt’s commitment to delivering one-of-a-kind experiences in key markets that matter most to our World of Hyatt members and guests.

“Rio is an icon reborn, and its legacy and unique character live on. We are excited for our members and guests to discover the experiences that make Rio Las Vegas a standout destination for global travellers.”

Positioned at 3700 W. Flamingo Road, the Rio Hotel & Casino is close to the Las Vegas Strip and is about a 15-minute drive from Harry Reid International Airport.

The initial phase of Rio’s transformation has introduced a redesigned 1,500-room Ipanema Tower, capturing the essence of Rio de Janeiro with its colourful aesthetic.

It also included the launch of six unique culinary experiences within the new Canteen Food Hall, 220,000ft² of refreshed meeting and convention area, and an updated pool district featuring four pools.

The resort’s revamped casino floor can now accommodate more than 500 new slot machines and 30 table games.

Rio Hotel & Casino president and CEO Patrick Miller said: “Rio’s Destination by Hyatt brand affiliation marks an exciting new chapter for our resort through our progressive evolution.

“We’ve not only re-energised the resort’s design and experience, but we’ve proudly honoured its legacy as a quintessential Las Vegas icon, providing World of Hyatt members and global travellers with even more ways to immerse themselves in our destination’s fun, energetic and eclectic atmosphere.”

Looking ahead, phase two of the renovation will concentrate on a complete redesign of the Masquerade Tower guest rooms and public areas.
