LyLo, a brand under the Australian EVT hotel group, is advancing its global expansion by introducing its pod hotel concept to the European market, with London earmarked as the site for its inaugural property.

The company has engaged P-Three, a retail, leisure and placemaking agency, as the exclusive agent to scout for potential locations, with an interest in Southwark and other central areas of London.

The search is on for properties ranging from 15,000ft² to 50,000ft² that could be converted into LyLo’s pod hotels. These could be existing office or retail spaces or even suitable basement areas.

LyLo’s pod hotels are designed to cater to a diverse clientele, including solo travellers, groups aged 18-35, digital nomads, sports groups, and families.

The brand offers budget-friendly, hostel-style accommodation with a design-led approach and customer-centric services. Facilities include coworking spaces, social areas, and wellness centres.

LyLo managing director Tim Alpe said: “We are thrilled to introduce LyLo to Europe, with London as the perfect city to launch our first property. Our innovative pod hotel concept has already proven successful in New Zealand and Australia, and we are confident that the European market will embrace our unique blend of affordability and community-focused design.

“London’s dynamic and diverse traveller base makes it an ideal location to begin this exciting new chapter, and we look forward to bringing LyLo’s fresh approach to hospitality to the city.”

Pod hotels, which originated in Japan, are gaining global popularity for their affordability and efficient use of space. They typically offer a bed, storage for personal items and shared facilities such as bathrooms and dining areas.

LyLo distinguishes its pods with enhanced security, privacy, and modern amenities such as lighting, fans, and charging ports. This concept appeals to travellers seeking to reduce accommodation costs and enhance their social and community experiences.

P-Three co-founder Thomas Rose said: “The pod hotel model has proven to be a game-changer in the hospitality space, especially for younger, budget-conscious travellers who often prioritise unique experiences and dynamic, social environments over traditional hotel offerings.

“With its large and vibrant visitor base, London is the perfect starting point for LyLo’s European expansion and we’re confident that their innovative approach and design-led concept will resonate well in this market. We look forward to working with them to bring it to life.”

Since its launch in 2022, LyLo has operated properties in Auckland, Queenstown, Christchurch, and Brisbane, featuring a total of 608 pods, 40 private rooms, 170 ensuite rooms, and four F&B venues.

Expansion plans include two additional properties in the Australian cities of Gold Coast and Fremantle.
