Business property adviser Christie & Co is facilitating the sale of the historic Applegarth Villa Hotel, located in the heart of Windermere, UK.

The property is listed with an asking price of £4.25m ($5.49m).

Established in 1891, the Victorian property is currently owned by the Mumford family and boasts 22 luxury suites, with some featuring balconies and private hot tubs.

Built by John Rigg, the Applegarth Villa has been a significant part of Windermere’s development, with the Rigg family once operating five hotels in the area.

The Mumford family has maintained the property’s original charm, ensuring that refurbishments have preserved the building’s character, which features fine oak panelling, feature fireplaces, and a central staircase.

Applegarth Villa owner and operator Suzanne Mumford commented: “It has been a true privilege to own Applegarth Villa and we have worked tirelessly to develop a very successful luxury hotel in the heart of Windermere.

“It has been our privilege to work to preserve and maintain the Applegarth as one of the most important properties of its kind, reflecting the wealth and success of one of the very first families that brought tourism to the Lake District over 175 years ago.”

Christie & Co’s local agent Graham Wilkinson is managing the sale of the five-star boutique hotel.

Wilkinson said: “I am delighted to be working with Suzanne and the family to find new owners for the Applegarth.

“As such a well-known landmark in Windermere as well as a superb business opportunity, it is now a pleasure to look to secure the sale of the business so it can be passed to the next generation of owners who are looking for a superb, luxury hospitality business in the heart of the Lake District.”

Christie & Co has also facilitated the sale of Beggars Reach Hotel in Burton, Pembrokeshire, UK.

Situated on seven acres of gardens, the hotel offers 30 en-suite bedrooms, a restaurant, a bistro, and various event spaces.

It has been acquired by a local business family, with the sale supported by Christie Finance.

The hotel, which had an asking price of £950,000, offers potential for further development with planning permission for additional guest rooms and a spa.
