The global travel & tourism industry noticed an 8.7% rise in IT hiring activity in August 2021 over the previous month, led by BCD Travel Services 9.68% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.

The travel & tourism industry’s overall hiring activity increased 1.9% when compared with July 2021.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 3.95% share of the global travel & tourism industry’s hiring activity in August 2021, up 0.04% over the last three-month average share.

According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of August 2021 were 2.5% higher when compared with the previous month.

The increase was a result of 5.49% lower job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive travel & tourism IT hiring activity

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 57.56% emerged as the top IT occupation in the travel & tourism hiring activity in August 2021, a 9.3% growth over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in second with a share of 15.41% in August 2021, up 36.24% over the previous month.

The other prominent IT roles include Database and Network Administrators and Architects with an 11.01% share in August 2021, a growth of 27.75% over the previous month, and Computer Support Specialists with a 7.4% share in August 2021 and a rise of 119.1% over July 2021.

Top five travel & tourism companies by recruitment activity in August 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 47.67% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global travel & tourism industry during August 2021 over July 2021.

BCD Travel Services posted 255 IT jobs in August 2021 and registered a rise of 3087.5% over the previous month, followed by A.P. Moller – Maersk with 171 jobs and an 11.86% decline. Booking Holdings with 119 IT jobs and Walt Disney with 114 jobs, recorded an 112.5% growth and a 31.74% drop, respectively, while DSV Panalpina recorded a 12.36% rise with 100 job postings during August 2021.

Regional composition of IT hiring in travel & tourism industry

North America emerged as the leading region in the global travel & tourism IT hiring activity in August 2021 with a 54.02% share, which marked a 39.92% rise over the previous month.

Europe stood next with 24.45%, registering a 2.71% month-on-month growth. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with an 18.98% share and a 4.94% drop over July 2021.

In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 1.82% and a month-on-month drop of 2.04%. Texas stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.49%, registering a 333.33% increase over the previous month.
