The value marked an increase of 29% over the previous month and a drop of 17.4% when compared with the last 12-month average of $7.04bn.
In terms of number of deals, the sector saw a rise of 3.9% over the last 12-month average with 108 deals against the average of 104 deals.
In value terms, Asia-Pacific led the activity with deals worth $3.21bn.

The top five tourism & leisure deals accounted for 74.3% of the overall value during March 2019.
The combined value of the top five tourism & leisure deals stood at $4.32bn, against the overall value of $5.82bn recorded for the month. The top announced tourism & leisure deal tracked by GlobalData in March 2019 was Hyundai Motor Group, Microsoft, OppenheimerFunds, Ping An Capital, Booking Holdings, SoftBank Vision Fund, Toyota Motor and Yamaha Motor’s $1.46bn venture financing of GrabTaxi Holdings.
In second place was the $1.33bn private equity deal with Grange Hotels by Queensgate Investments and in third place was Cathay Pacific Airways’ $628.08m acquisition of Hong Kong Express Airways.
The $572.36m private equity deal with Leela Palaces and Resorts by BSREP 111 India Ballet and Ebix’s acquisition of Yatra Online for $336m held fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
