Starwood Hotels to open more than 60 new hotels in Europe
Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, an American hotel and leisure company, is planning to expand its European hotel portfolio by nearly 40% with the opening of more than 60 new hotels by 2020.
This year, Starwood Hotels will open nine new hotels in Turkey, Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States.
The company has also announced the signing of a deal to open the Sheraton Istanbul Atasehir Hotel, its seventh Sheraton property in Turkey, later this year.
Novotel opens new hotel in Abu Dhabi, UAE
Novotel, Accor’s mid-scale hotel brand, has opened a new hotel, the Novotel Abu Dhabi Al Bustan in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
The 361-room, four-star hotel is situated in the centre of the city, close to Abu Dhabi International Airport, Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, Zayed Sport City, Sheikh Zayed Mosque and Abu Dhabi Golf Club.

Ritz-Carlton to open new resort in California, US
The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company will expand its US portfolio with the opening of a new resort in Southern California’s scenic Rancho Mirage region on 15 May.
The new Ritz-Carlton Rancho Mirage is around two hours from Los Angeles and San Diego and is surrounded by the Santa Rosa Mountain range, offering views of Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley.
The property will include 244 resort rooms and suites, residences, a two-storey luxury spa, more than 30,000ft² of indoor / outdoor meeting space and destination dining with sweeping valley views.
Caesars Growth Partners to buy Caesars Entertainment assets
Caesars Acquisition (CAC) has announced that Caesars Growth Partners has signed an agreement with Caesars Entertainment to acquire Bally’s Las Vegas, The Cromwell, The Quad Resort and Casino and Harrah’s New Orleans, for around $2.2bn.
In addition, Caesars Growth Partners will retain a 50% interest in the management fee revenues to be received by certain subsidiaries of Caesars Entertainment Operating, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Caesars Entertainment, in connection with the management of the acquired assets.
Along with this transaction, CAC has also announced a $223m renovation of The Quad.
Hilton Worldwide opens new hotel in Saudi Arabia
Hilton Worldwide has opened the Hilton Suites Makkah First Tower in Saudi Arabia.
The 480-room luxury hotel, which is split into two towers, is near to Jeddah International Airport, as well as to holy sites and popular Makkah attractions, such as Masjid al-Haram, Kaaba, ZamZam Well, Jabal al-Nour, Makkah Museum and Makkah Mall.
The hotel has been designed to include amenities that are suitable for both business and religious guests, according to Hilton.
Rubell Hotels completes restoration of Lord Baltimore Hotel
US-based Rubell Hotels has announced that it has completed its restoration of the Lord Baltimore Hotel, which it acquired in March 2013.
Built in 1928, the 23-storey Lord Baltimore Hotel has 440 guest rooms and suites, more than 20,000ft² of event space, several dining and lounging spaces, and one of the city’s only rooftop event spaces.
The Lord Baltimore Hotel’s new look includes a large gold Murano glass chandelier, white columns and intimate groupings of mid-century inspired lounge seating. Interior designer Scott Sanders spear-headed the design, which typifies his ‘New American Style’.
Starwood breaks ground for new Element brand hotel in US
Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide has broken ground on a new Element brand hotel, the Element Miami Doral, in Florida, US.
The new hotel will be the second Starwood hotel in the Miami metropolitan area and is slated to open in July 2015 and will be part of a dual-hotel development project along with the Aloft Miami Doral, which was launched in March 2013.
The 139-room Element Miami Doral will be owned by Eurocon.
Marriott boosts presence in India with new hotel launch
Marriott International has expanded its presence in Central India with the launch of a new Courtyard by Marriott branded business hotel in Bilaspur, Chattisgarh.
The new Courtyard by Marriott, Bilaspur is located in the commercial district of Bilaspur and represents the eleventh Courtyard property in India.
Courtyard by Marriott also has properties in Mumbai, Chennai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Gurgaon, Kochi and Bhopal.
IHG to develop two new hotels in Germany
InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has announced that it will develop two more hotels in Germany, Holiday Inn Express Siegen and Holiday Inn Düsseldorf – Toulouser Allee, under existing multiple development agreements (MDAs) with long-standing partners.
IHG will build the new 120-room Holiday Inn Express Siegen in Siegen, a university town in Germany with a population in excess of 100,000.
The hotel will be operated by its existing MDA partner Tristar Hotel & Management, under a franchise agreement.
CIM and Denihan to bring The James hotel brand to US
CIM Group and Denihan Hospitality Group have signed an agreement to develop the first The James brand hotel in Los Angeles, US.
The James Los Angeles, the first new ground-up hotel to be built in West Hollywood for around 30 years, will be built in the heart of the iconic Sunset Strip at the south-east corner of Sunset and La Cienega Boulevards.
The hotel will include two ten-storey towers with 286 rooms, according to CIM.
