The global travel & tourism industry noticed a 0.5% drop in IT hiring activity in April 2022 over the previous month, led by Uber Technologies 20.02% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The travel & tourism industry’s overall hiring activity declined 4.59% when compared with March 2022.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 4.8% share of the global travel & tourism industry’s hiring activity in April 2022, up 0.12% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of April 2022 were 0.87% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 2.12% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 71.28% emerged as the top IT occupation in the travel & tourism hiring activity in April 2022, an 18.15% growth over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in second with a share of 9.51% in April 2022, down 9.2% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a 9.39% share in April 2022, a growth of 8.84% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with a 5.5% share in April 2022 and a rise of 7.87% over March 2022.
Top five travel & tourism companies by recruitment activity in April 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 71.12% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global travel & tourism industry during April 2022 over March 2022.
Uber Technologies posted 499 IT jobs in April 2022 and registered a flat growth over the previous month, followed by The Walt Disney with 257 jobs and a 30.54% decline. Booking Holdings with 232 IT jobs and Expedia Group with 142 jobs, recorded a 96.61% growth and a 30.28% rise, respectively, while A.P. Moller – Maersk recorded a 4.17% drop with 138 job postings during April 2022.
Regional composition of IT hiring in travel & tourism industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global travel & tourism IT hiring activity in April 2022 with a 51.18% share, which marked a 22.22% rise over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 22.86%, registering a 13.11% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 22.82% share and a 15.42% rise over March 2022.
In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 1.85% and a month-on-month drop of 9.8%. South & Central America stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 1.28%, registering an 113.33% increase over the previous month.
