The global travel & tourism industry noticed a 7.0% drop in IT hiring activity in September 2022 over the previous month, led by The Walt Disney’s 12.66% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The travel & tourism industry’s overall hiring activity declined 4.87% when compared with August 2022.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 3.5% share of the global travel & tourism industry’s hiring activity in September 2022, down 0.22% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of September 2022 were 9.33% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 20.33% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 48.12% emerged as the top IT occupation in the travel & tourism hiring activity in September 2022, a 21.66% decline over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 23.2% in September 2022, down 13.24% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Computer and Information Analysts with an 11.89% share in September 2022, a growth of 4.38% over the previous month, and Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 10.85% share in September 2022 and a drop of 8.78% over August 2022.
Top five travel & tourism companies by recruitment activity in September 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 5.4% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global travel & tourism industry during September 2022 over August 2022.
The Walt Disney posted 279 IT jobs in September 2022 and registered a drop of 19.83% over the previous month, followed by A.P. Moller – Maersk with 212 jobs and a 28.48% growth. Bally’s with 126 IT jobs and Booking Holdings with 79 jobs, recorded a 32.62% decline and a 3.66% drop, respectively, while Uber Technologies recorded a 127.27% rise with 75 job postings during September 2022.
Regional composition of IT hiring in travel & tourism industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global travel & tourism IT hiring activity in September 2022 with a 50.11% share, which marked a 16.3% drop over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 25.56%, registering a 27.35% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 20.93% share and a 9.5% rise over August 2022.
In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 2.77% and a month-on-month rise of 19.61%. South & Central America stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.64%, registering a 58.82% decrease over the previous month.
