
The global travel & tourism industry noticed a 5.1% rise in IT hiring activity in September 2021 over the previous month, led by Expedia Group’s 16.33% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The travel & tourism industry’s overall hiring activity declined 0.65% when compared with August 2021.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 4.08% share of the global travel & tourism industry’s hiring activity in September 2021, up 0.34% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of September 2021 were 5.99% higher when compared with the previous month.
The increase was a result of 14.09% lower job postings as compared to job closures during the month.
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive travel & tourism IT hiring activity
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 64.22% emerged as the top IT occupation in the travel & tourism hiring activity in September 2021, a 14.02% growth over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in second with a share of 13.29% in September 2021, down 10.27% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Database and Network Administrators and Architects with an 8.48% share in September 2021, a decline of 22% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with a 6.12% share in September 2021 and a rise of 15.75% over August 2021.
Top five travel & tourism companies by recruitment activity in September 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 115.37% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global travel & tourism industry during September 2021 over August 2021.
Expedia Group posted 451 IT jobs in September 2021 and registered a flat growth over the previous month, followed by A.P. Moller – Maersk with 181 jobs and a 4.02% growth. Walt Disney with 130 IT jobs and MGM Resorts International with 107 jobs, recorded a 6.56% growth and a 101.89% rise, respectively, while DSV Panalpina recorded a 2% drop with 98 job postings during September 2021.
Regional composition of IT hiring in travel & tourism industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global travel & tourism IT hiring activity in September 2021 with a 54.51% share, which marked an 8.04% rise over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 23.76%, registering a 0.3% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 17.78% share and a 1.6% drop over August 2021.
In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 2.32% and a month-on-month rise of 28%. Texas stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 1.01%, registering a 100% increase over the previous month.
