
The global travel & tourism industry noticed an 8.8% rise in IT hiring activity in October 2021 over the previous month, led by Expedia Group’s 11.44% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The travel & tourism industry’s overall hiring activity increased 2.73% when compared with September 2021.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 4.42% share of the global travel & tourism industry’s hiring activity in October 2021, up 0.5% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of October 2021 were 6% higher when compared with the previous month.
The increase was a result of 13.98% lower job postings as compared to job closures during the month.
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive travel & tourism IT hiring activity
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 63.8% emerged as the top IT occupation in the travel & tourism hiring activity in October 2021, an 8.06% growth over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in second with a share of 14.98% in October 2021, up 22.77% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a 10.22% share in October 2021, a growth of 31.69% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with a 5.72% share in October 2021 and a drop of 1.1% over September 2021.
Top five travel & tourism companies by recruitment activity in October 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 10.59% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global travel & tourism industry during October 2021 over September 2021.
Expedia Group posted 358 IT jobs in October 2021 and registered a drop of 20.97% over the previous month, followed by Walt Disney with 208 jobs and a 46.48% growth. A.P. Moller – Maersk with 173 IT jobs and BCD Travel Services with 170 jobs, recorded a 5.46% decline and an 80.85% rise, respectively, while XPO Logistics recorded a 65.35% rise with 167 job postings during October 2021.
Regional composition of IT hiring in travel & tourism industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global travel & tourism IT hiring activity in October 2021 with a 51.82% share, which marked a 5.05% rise over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 25.91%, registering a 13.59% month-on-month growth. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with an 18.12% share and an 11.18% rise over September 2021.
In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 2.72% and a month-on-month rise of 26.87%. Texas stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 1.18%, registering a 23.33% increase over the previous month.
