InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has expanded its presence in Germany with the signing of two hotels under its Holiday Inn Express brand.
The two franchised hotels, which are part of a multiple development agreement (MDA) with IHG’s long-standing lessee partner Foremost Hospitality HIEX, are the Holiday Inn Express Hamburg – City Hauptbahnhof and Holiday Inn Express Freiburg – City.
Located in close proximity to Hamburg Central Station, the Holiday Inn Express Hamburg – City Hauptbahnhof will be operated along with its sister properties including Holiday Inn Express Hamburg – City Centre and Holiday Inn Express Hamburg – St. Pauli Messe.
The 117-room newly constructed hotel, which is scheduled to open during 2014, is expected to attract both leisure and business travellers.
The 120-room Holiday Inn Express Freiburg, which represents the first hotel under the brand in Freiburg, is slated for opening in 2015.
Holiday Inn Express Freiburg is located near to the borders with France and Switzerland, as well as in close proximity to Germany’s Black Forest region.

By GlobalDataIHG Germany development associate vice president Martin Bowen said that MDA agreements are a major part of the company’s growth strategy for Germany.
"We know that hotels developed by Foremost always deliver outstanding quality and performance and are great representations of the Holiday Inn Express brand," Bowen added.
The Holiday Inn Express brand was launched in 1991 and currently has over 2,200 hotels across 31 countries around the globe.
In Germany IHG currently operates 61 hotels, with 14 properties in the development pipeline.
The hospitality group has 471 hotels in development stages across the globe that are slated to open during the next three to five years.
