Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide is to introduce its Westin brand to Cleveland, Ohio, US.
The 481-room Westin Cleveland Convention Center will open in mid-2013 in a location adjacent to the Cleveland Medical Mart and Convention Center complex. The hotel, formerly known as Crowne Plaza, is owned by Sage Hospitality and will undergo a $64m renovation prior to reopening as a Westin.
Starwood said the property will be an ideal venue for weddings, social galas and business functions, featuring 26,000ft2 of meeting and banquet facilities, and a restaurant. The Westin Cleveland will also offer access to attractions such as Brown’s Stadium, Progressive Field, Playhouse Square, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Galleria shopping centre at Erieview.
Allison Reid, Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide senior vice-president of North America development, said that Westin is growing rapidly in urban centres across North America through newbuild projects and conversions.
"The brand has expanded its portfolio 30% over the past five years, and expects to add another 30 hotels by the end of 2016," Reid said.
Westin has more than 180 hotels and resorts in over 36 countries.
