Hotel operator Accor has expanded its portfolio by introducing its apartment hotel brand, The Sebel, to Melbourne’s suburb Kew in Australia.

The Sebel Melbourne Kew marks the brand’s ninth property in Victoria and the 35th across Australia and New Zealand.

Previously known as Hotel 115, the hotel has been rebranded following a franchise agreement with Regional Accommodation Group (RA Group).

Accor Pacific chief operating officer Adrian Williams said: “We are thrilled to welcome The Sebel Melbourne Kew to our extensive network of hotels in Melbourne’s city centre and suburbs. This addition perfectly complements our portfolio in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, providing an exceptional base for both corporate and leisure travellers.

“With Melbourne’s calendar of iconic events, including the Australian Open, Boxing Day Test, and Australian Grand Prix, Kew offers the perfect base with its convenient city connections, leafy charm, vibrant village atmosphere, and outstanding cafes, bars, and boutique shops.

“The hotel will benefit from Accor’s unparalleled strength in distribution and loyalty. This will help boost bookings from both corporate and leisure travel segments.”

The Sebel Melbourne Kew, which is RA Group’s first city-based hotel, adds to their eight regional properties in New South Wales, Victoria, and Queensland.

RA Group is refurbishing the lobby and reception area and has plans for future upgrades to the accommodations.

RA Group managing director Dominic Quilligan said: “Branding the property as The Sebel was central to the deal. My team is excited to work with Accor to utilise their knowledge and experience of the inner-city Melbourne market, as well as to witness the expected significant uplift in the property’s performance through Accor’s established distribution channels and marketing machine.”

The hotel features 89 rooms and 23 one- and two-bedroom apartments, along with a function space that can host up to 130 people for cocktail receptions or 80 for banquets.

Located 6km east of Melbourne’s CBD, The Sebel Melbourne Kew is a significant addition to Accor’s local portfolio, now counting 42 hotels in the city and surrounding suburbs.
