Choice Hotels International has introduced a new modular design package, Lobby in a Box, to enhance extended stay hotel conversions for its Suburban Studios and MainStay Suites brands.
This solution allows hoteliers to revamp public spaces, such as lobby dining areas, into versatile, revenue-generating environments in about 120 days.
Lobby in a Box is delivered in a ready-to-assemble crate, designed to meet the demands of long-staying guests who often prefer in-room dining options.
The introduction of this package provides hotel owners the flexibility to convert their lobby spaces and create new income streams for the MainStay brand.
By converting standard lobby dining spaces in transient hotels into multi-functional areas, hoteliers can include a marketplace offering on-the-go food and beverage choices, travel items that are essential, and more.
Choice Hotels’ Lobby in a Box, alongside the previously launched Kitchen in a Box, addresses the industry-wide need for swift hotel conversions.

Since its debut in 2022, Kitchen in a Box has been implemented in more than 30 open hotels, with six additional projects underway, three of which are also integrating Lobby in a Box into their upgrades.
Choice Hotels extended stay brands vice-president and lead Matt McElhare said: “At Choice Hotels, we are proud to be pioneers and innovators in the extended stay segment. As the demand for extended stay accommodations continues to exceed supply, solutions like Lobby in a Box and Kitchen in a Box are helping franchisees seize opportunities in a growing market while providing long-staying guests a superior, tailor-made experience.
“Our goal is to simplify the conversion process and help maximise hotel owners’ return on investment by giving them the tools to create spaces that can be both functional and profitable.”
In 2024, the company is poised to open its 500th extended stay property.
Earlier in October 2024, Choice Hotels repositioned Radisson Individuals in the Americas as an upper upscale soft brand, targeting full-service, boutique, and independent hotels.
