UK-based family-owned private hospitality company Glendola Leisure and Carlton Hotel Collection are planning to transform the site of the Tipsy Bird bar in Belfast, Ireland, into a luxury hotel.

Both Glendola Leisure Group and Carlton Hotel Collection operate under the Foundation Group of Companies, with a presence in the UK and Benelux.

The £50m ($63.4m) investment by Glendola Leisure is projected to create up to 150 new jobs in the area, Belfast Telegraph reported.

This development will not only encompass Tipsy Bird’s current location but also the adjacent courtyard and the vacant Jamison & Green Building.

Glendola Leisure’s new luxury hotel is expected to feature 145 rooms.

It will offer various amenities such as a champagne bar with views of Belfast, a gym and spa, a rooftop terrace with event space, and a fine dining restaurant.

A Jamison & Green pub will also be part of the hotel.

The hospitality company has already submitted a proposal of application notice (PAN) for the project to the local Belfast City Council.

A pre-application community consultation event is scheduled to take place at the Tipsy Bird from 2pm to 6pm on 28 August.

This event will allow the community to learn more about the project and provide feedback.

Belfast Telegraph quoted Glendola Leisure Group managing director Alex Salussolia as saying: “The hotel will offer guests a high-quality hospitality experience, including top-tier restaurants and bars with a 360° view of the city and Belfast Lough from the rooftop event spaces.

“The ground-level courtyard will enhance the city centre’s amenities and create new connections between the river and the Cathedral Quarter.

“With the PAN now submitted, we look forward to further engagement with local stakeholders throughout the pre-application community consultation process.”

A family-owned entity, Glendola has 18 venues across the UK, including the renowned Alston Bar & Beef, Waxy O’Connor’s pubs, Shilling Co Brewery, and Gordon Street Coffee Roastery.

Meanwhile, the Carlton Hotel Collection’s portfolio includes 11 four-star hotels such as the Carlton Ambassador in The Dominican in Brussels, The Hague, Market Street Hotel in Edinburgh, Banks Mansion in Amsterdam, and Carlton George in Glasgow.
