IHG’s hotel brand Holiday Inn Express & Suites, in collaboration with pan-European operator Cycas Hospitality, has launched its first property in Switzerland.
The Holiday Inn Express & Suites hotel in Sion is a key component of the Cour de Gare, an urban development project that will establish more than 5,700m² of commercial space, in addition to offices, apartments, and a concert and conference centre.
Cycas Hospitality chief development officer Craig Patterson said: “The opening of Holiday Inn Express & Suites Sion represents an important milestone for us, and we are proud to further our partnership with IHG Hotels & Resorts across Europe, bringing our expertise in hospitality management to this fantastic location in the Swiss Alps.”
Nestled within the 4 Vallèes ski area, the hotel is poised to cater to ski enthusiasts, as well as local businesses and visitors attending events at the nearby arena.
The hotel aligns with national environmental initiatives by adhering to Minergie standards, a Swiss certification for energy-efficient buildings. It commits to sustainable energy use, effective waste management and reduction practices, and fostering relationships with regional suppliers.
The property offers 122 rooms, including 16 suites with kitchenettes, designed to meet the needs of both leisure and business travellers.
Guests also have access to a lobby bar and lounge and a meeting room for conferences or private events. The hotel offers convenient access to both regional and international transport.
Holiday Inn Express and Suites Sion general manager Cyril Dederding said: “We’re incredibly pleased to bring this landmark development to Sion, a city rich in history and charm. Our vision is to create an exceptional destination where guests can experience warm Swiss hospitality, world-class service, and the breathtaking beauty of the Valais region.”
This opening signifies another milestone for Cycas Hospitality’s growth strategy. The company further expands its portfolio with this being their second property under the Holiday Inn Express & Suites brand after inaugurating a similar establishment in Deventer in 2022.
This expansion follows IHG Hotels & Resorts’ introduction of the Holiday Inn Express & Suites brand in Australia in May 2022, with a new property on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland.
