Major internationalx hotel groups operators such as InterContinental Hotels (IHG) and Grand Hyatt are set to waive fees for Chinese hotel cancellations following the coronavirus outbreak which was first identified in Wuhan, China.
The move comes due to widespread of the deadly coronavirus outbreak overshadowing Lunar New Year holiday plans.
The Wuhan-originated virus has reportedly killed 81 and infected around 3,000 people to date.
With Lunar New Year holiday period from 24 January through 30 January and the spread of the virus, rescheduling or cancellation charges have been called off on bookings till 3 February.

By GlobalDataReuters quoted IHG as saying on its official WeChat account that the cancellations will be implemented across mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan at no additional cost.
The waiver is applicable for bookings that are done directly through the hotel’s website or mobile app.
The company said in a statement: “While all the Hyatt Hotels in China remain in operation, as usual, we understand the concerns for traveling at the moment.”
Additionally, Langham and Cordis Mainland China Hotels in Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Haining, Ningbo, Xiamen, Hefei and Haikou also announced a total refund on cancellation for bookings until 9 February.
The tourism and travel industry has been hit the hardest due to the virus.
Following the outbreak, Chinese authorities have imposed strict travel restrictions and suspended air and rail travel in and around Wuhan to prevent the spread of the communicable disease.
