Hyatt Hotels has partnered with Maya Rio Development to introduce the first Hyatt-branded hotel in Belize with The Placencia Resort.
Located on the Placencia Peninsula, The Placencia Resort is poised to become a part of the Hyatt portfolio as an affiliated hotel. It will join the Destination by Hyatt brand.
The resort is undergoing a $10m renovation with completion and opening set for late 2025.
The renovated property will include 90 reimagined guest rooms, suites and beachfront villas, as well as enhanced public areas.
Following the renovation, The Placencia Resort will feature a new three-meal restaurant, indoor/outdoor event spaces, an overwater signature restaurant and bar, and a revitalised pool area.
These additions are designed to cater to both social gatherings and individual guest experiences.

“These plans for the first Hyatt-branded hotel in Belize reinforce our thoughtful brand growth in Latin America and the Caribbean, and we remain dedicated to meeting our guests where they want to be. We’re thankful to have worked alongside Maya Rio Development on this transition and look forward to bringing the Destination by Hyatt brand to Belize in late 2025.”
The Placencia Resort’s offerings include group fitness sessions on the beach, a biophilic gym, and a swimming pool.
Guests can enjoy complimentary kayaking, paddleboarding, and unlimited private beach access.
This development is part of Hyatt’s strategy to expand its presence in Latin America and the Caribbean.
In addition to this, Hyatt plans to open Hyatt Centric Santo Domingo, Dreams Grand Island in Cancun, Hyatt Centric San José Escazú, and Hyatt Regency Panama City later this year.
The Destination by Hyatt brand also continues to grow in the region with the upcoming Cas En Bas Beach Resort St Lucia set to open next year.
