The iconic Ritz London is preparing for an extensive redevelopment project worth £300m, marking one of the most significant refurbishments in its 118-year history.

Under the ownership of Qatari businessman Abdulhadi Mana Al-Hajri since 2020, the ambitious transformation aims to modernise the hotel while preserving its timeless elegance.

A temporary closure is expected later this year, with the renovation set to be completed by 2028.

Expanding luxury with new facilities

A key element of the redevelopment includes expanding into an adjacent building on Arlington Street, providing additional accommodation for guests while the main hotel undergoes restoration.

The plans also feature the introduction of state-of-the-art wellness facilities, including a two-storey subterranean spa, a 20-metre swimming pool, multiple treatment rooms, and a steam sauna.

The Ritz aims to maintain its reputation as one of the world’s most luxurious hotels by seamlessly blending historical grandeur with modern sophistication.

Retaining the legacy of an iconic institution

Since its opening in 1906, The Ritz has been synonymous with opulence and has welcomed an array of distinguished guests, including Queen Elizabeth II, Winston Churchill, and Charlie Chaplin.

The latest renovation will honour the vision of its founder, Swiss hotelier César Ritz, by ensuring the building’s architectural heritage is sensitively restored.

While an exact reopening date remains unconfirmed, the extensive refurbishment is poised to reaffirm The Ritz as a benchmark of luxury hospitality for generations to come.
