Indian Hotels Company (IHCL) has expanded its portfolio with the signing of a new resort in Prayagraj in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

This greenfield project, which will operate under the Gateway brand, marks a partnership with Ecavo Hospitality.

The upcoming 150-key Gateway Prayagraj hotel will offer a range of culinary experiences, including an all-day restaurant, a bar, and a speciality restaurant.

Among other amenities to be provided at the property include a gym, swimming pool, spa, and banqueting space covering more than 5,000ft².

IHCL Real Estate & Development executive vice-president Suma Venkatesh said: “Prayagraj, with its deep-rooted cultural and religious importance, has been a prominent destination for pilgrims and leisure tourists alike.

“This signing aligns with our strategy of penetrating emerging markets in Tier II and III cities. We are delighted to partner with Ecavo Hospitality Limited for this project.”

Ecavo Hospitality managing director Abhishek Gupta added: “We are thrilled to partner with IHCL to introduce the Gateway brand to Prayagraj.

“This hotel will be a premier destination for domestic and international travellers, offering them an unparalleled experience.”

This announcement comes on the heels of IHCL’s signing of a domestic Taj-branded hotel in Chikkamagaluru, Karnataka, in collaboration with Arnaytive Resorts.

Taj Chikkamagaluru is also a greenfield project and is part of IHCL’s broader strategy to bring India’s lesser-known leisure destinations into the international spotlight.

It will be situated across 25 acres, offering 160 rooms.

IHCL opened its first hotel, The Taj Mahal Palace, in Bombay in 1903, and now has 345 hotels across four continents and 13 countries. Of these hotels, 115 are under development.

The company’s brands include Taj, Gateway, SeleQtions, Vivanta, and Ginger.
