Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) is set to expand its portfolio in the first quarter (Q1) of fiscal year (FY) 2025, through 16 hotel signings and six openings.

This growth has increased the company’s total portfolio to 326 hotels, including a pipeline of 102 hotels across four continents, 13 countries, and more than 130 locations.

Founded by Jamsetji Tata, IHCL opened its first property, The Taj Mahal Palace, in Bombay in 1903.

As of 30 June 2024, the company operated 81 operating hotels under the Taj brand, 23 under SeleQtions, 16 under Tree of Life, and eight under Gateway.

Additionally, there are 30 Vivanta hotels and 66 Ginger hotels in operation.

IHCL Real Estate & Development executive vice president Suma Venkatesh said: “Quarter one signings are reflective of our development strategy of accelerating growth and maintaining leadership in the Indian sub-continent.

“We entered into agreements for new markets like a Taj in Kanpur and Panchkula and a Gateway in Sarnath and Barnala. We grew our presence with multiple brands in existing markets with the signing of Tree of Life resorts in Gangtok and Srinagar, a Taj in Anjuna, Goa and Gateway in Sawai Madhopur.”

IHCL Hotel Openings & New Businesses executive vice president Deepika Rao said: “Our hotel openings in the first quarter have kept pace with our guidance of two hotels a month, from foraying into new leisure destinations with a 77 keys SeleQtions at Mahabaleshwar to being present in prominent commercial hubs like Nagpur with an 86 keys Ginger hotel. We also added to our presence in the industrial city of Jamshedpur with 94 keys Vivanta hotel.”

Last month, IHCL signed a new 83-key hotel in Thimphu, Bhutan.  

This property, which will be rebranded and operated under IHCL’s SeleQtions brand, will offer a range of amenities, including a gym, a spa, and an all-day dining restaurant and bar.
