The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) has confirmed the signing of a new Taj hotel in Alibaug, Maharashtra, marking an addition to its luxury hospitality offerings in the region.

The Taj Alibaug Resort & Spa is a conversion project that will feature 156 keys and a variety of amenities.

IHCL real estate and development executive vice-president Suma Venkatesh said: “Alibaug’s proximity to Mumbai and Pune has positioned it as a key leisure destination in Maharashtra.

“Its infrastructure and improved connectivity make it a preferred choice for events and getaways and Taj will further its luxury offerings on the other side of the shore in Mumbai.”

The property is set to offer views and a range of dining options, including an all-day dining restaurant, the speciality Konkan Café, a bar, and a lobby lounge.

The hotel features more than 8,500f² of banqueting area and will offer space for corporate events, weddings, and social gatherings.

Guests will also have access to leisure facilities such as a swimming pool, a fitness centre, and the J Wellness Spa.

This new property will increase IHCL’s portfolio in Maharashtra to 38 hotels, including 14 under development.

Founded by Jamsetji Tata, IHCL made its debut with The Taj Mahal Palace in Bombay in 1903. The company now boasts a global footprint with 362 hotels, including 125 under development, across four continents, 14 countries, and more than 150 locations.

The IHCL brand portfolio includes Taj, SeleQtions, Tree of Life, Vivanta, Gateway, and Ginger.

This announcement follows the recent launch of the Taj Bandstand project in Mumbai.

In addition, IHCL opened Taj The Trees in Mumbai, a property within a mixed-use development that spans 34 acres and offers views of the eastern shoreline and mangrove reserve, in September 2023.
