Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), part of Tata Group, will operate a five-star hotel on the premises of the Kochi international airport in Kerala, India.
IHCL has received a contract from Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL), the operator of the Kochi airport, to operate the hotel which is located near the airport entrance, according to a report in The New Indian Express.
The hotel is to be operated under IHCL’s luxury brand Taj and will be known as Taj CIAL. The property will be located on four acres of land and the building will have a footprint of about 200,000ft².
Set to be opened by the middle of next year, Taj CIAL will offer 112 rooms as well as a speciality restaurant and a service bar. It will also feature two boardrooms, a banquet hall and a rooftop dining area.
CIAL managing director S Suhas said: “As the Taj group is one of the most renowned luxury hotel operators in the world, we hope that this collaboration will spur our plan to increase revenue from non-aero verticals.
“CIAL is eyeing exponential growth in air traffic movement with the introduction of a new fleet of aircraft by Tata-owned Air India. We are sure that this agreement will enhance the scope for a more meaningful association with one of the biggest airlines in the world.”

By GlobalDataCIAL constructed the hotel as part of its land utilisation programme. Many elements have already been completed such as the civil, mechanical, electrical and plumbing works of the hotel.
IHCL will invest Rs1,000m ($12m) to improve the interiors of the hotel and bring it to the brand’s standards.
Under the terms of the contract, IHCL also agreed to provide a share of the gross revenue generated from the hotel operations to CIAL.
In a separate development, IHCL has opened a new SeleQtions hotel in the neighbourhood of Anjuna, Goa.
The Yellow House, Anjuna – an IHCL SeleQtions hotel combines traditional Goan-Portuguese style and modern luxury. It is a heritage property with 49 rooms.
