In a move to combat deforestation and contribute to global reforestation efforts, IHG Hotels & Resorts has announced a partnership with Mastercard‘s Priceless Planet Coalition.
The collaboration aims to convert guest spending into support for reforestation projects worldwide.
During the month of October, IHG will donate $2 for each transaction of $50 or more made with a Mastercard card at select IHG-branded properties in the US.
Supporting reforestation projects globally
IHG’s initiative will channel funds to Conservation International, supporting their tree restoration work. Each $2 donation is estimated to cover the approximate cost of growing one tree.
Guided by organisations such as Conservation International and the World Resources Institute, the Priceless Planet Coalition unites corporate sustainability efforts, encouraging businesses and consumers to take collective action against climate change.
This partnership is projected to contribute to the restoration of 1.5 million trees globally, focusing on regions such as Brazil, Madagascar and the Appalachian region in the United States.

By GlobalDataAddressing a global issue
According to the World Resources Institute, the world lost more than 10 million acres of tropical primary rainforests in the past year. These rainforests play a critical role in supporting livelihoods, storing carbon and preserving biodiversity.
In response to this pressing issue, Mastercard’s Priceless Planet Coalition has committed to restoring 100 million trees across 18 reforestation projects spanning six continents.
The coalition strategically targets areas with the greatest global need, where reforestation efforts can have the most positive impact on climate, communities and biodiversity.
Commitment to sustainability
IHG Hotels & Resorts chief sustainability officer Catherine Dolton stated that IHG’s involvement in this initiative aligns with their ten-year-responsible business plan, “Journey to Tomorrow.”
The plan includes a series of ambitious sustainability commitments aimed at driving positive change for people, communities and the planet.
Dolton expressed pride in partnering with the Priceless Planet Coalition and anticipates making a meaningful impact on a global scale.
Mastercard chief sustainability officer Ellen Jackowski emphasised the coalition’s mission to galvanise collective action for climate, biodiversity and communities by connecting companies and consumers with high-quality forest restoration projects worldwide.
Jackowski welcomed IHG Hotels & Resorts’ participation in this endeavour, highlighting the potential for positive contributions to both people and the planet.
This announcement marks a continuation of the ongoing partnership between Mastercard and IHG. In the previous year, Chase and IHG introduced the IHG Rewards Premier Business Mastercard, with Mastercard serving as the exclusive payments network.
The current campaign is valid for both corporate and personal Mastercard spending at IHG properties in the US during the month of October, with the exception of IHG Army Hotels and Iberostar Hotels & Resorts.
