IHG has highlighted its dominance in the midscale hotel segment at the HUNTER Hotel Investment Conference.
Highlighting a banner year in 2023 with more than 150 midscale hotel openings and 300 signings globally, IHG emphasised its commitment to strategic expansion and brand expertise.
The hotel giant boasts a robust midscale portfolio encompassing six brands and more than 4,400 open or pipeline hotels in the Americas. This includes established names such as Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express, alongside exciting new additions such as avid hotels and Atwell Suites.
Legacy brands receive refreshments and expand
Holiday Inn introduced a premium breakfast programme and debuted the innovative H5 prototype design near Chicago’s O’Hare Airport in 2023. The brand has 750 open or pipeline hotels in the Americas, with recent openings in major cities.
As IHG’s largest global brand, with more than half its Americas hotels adhering to the brand’s “simple, smart travel” concept, Holiday Inn Express enjoyed a stellar year in 2023. The Americas region secured more than half of the brand’s 2023 global signings, with exciting openings in major US cities.
Emerging brands fuel growth
Celebrating its fifth anniversary in September 2023 with a New York City debut, IHG said that avid hotels focuses on delivering exceptional basics. This primarily new-build brand plans to triple its Americas presence with over 140 properties planned across the US, Mexico and Canada. Notable 2023 openings include fellow market debuts in Tulsa, Fort Worth, Austin and Tuscaloosa..

Extended-stay brands maintain momentum
Known for its comfortable, home-like amenities, Candlewood Suites added 49 new signings in 2023 and now has more than 520 open or pipeline Americas hotels.
Atwell Suites, the upper midscale all-studio suite brand that debuted in 2022, has secured 16 new Americas signings, bringing its pipeline to 41 hotels. Openings are planned in Las Vegas, Henderson and Fort Worth, following a host of recent ground-breakings.
IHG’s continued investment in its midscale portfolio has positioned the company for significant growth.
