IHG Hotels & Resorts has disclosed the inaugural agreements for Ruby Hotels locations following the brand’s integration in February 2025.
Earlier this year, the company completed the acquisition of the Ruby brand and its associated intellectual property rights for an initial transaction value set at €110.5m ($116m).
IHG is set to launch a new 375-room Ruby Hotel in Berlin, anticipated to begin operations at the beginning of 2028. This project comes to fruition through a collaborative effort with Empira Group and will be managed by The Ruby Group.
This addition to IHG’s portfolio adds to its presence in Germany, where it currently operates 147 hotels and has another 75 in development.
Additionally, IHG has confirmed the introduction of Ruby Hotels to the Danish market with a 219-room property in Copenhagen, scheduled to welcome guests in early 2027. This venture is being realised in conjunction with ECE and will also be operated by The Ruby Group.
The Copenhagen-based site will transform an existing office space into a property with public spaces, a winter garden on the ground floor, and a rooftop terrace providing city views.
Located in the district of Frederiksberg, the hotel will join the already open Crowne Plaza Copenhagen Towers.
IHG Hotels & Resorts Europe senior vice-president and managing director Karin Sheppard said: “When we acquired the Ruby Hotels brand, we saw really exciting opportunities to grow the brand both here in Europe and around the world as it meets the demands of owners and guests for a premium urban lifestyle offering. As such, we are delighted to announce our first Ruby Hotel signings, together with The Ruby Group, less than six weeks since we welcomed the brand to our portfolio.
“We have seen widespread positivity and enthusiasm from our owners and investors for Ruby Hotels as they look to develop in the growing urban micro subsegment. These latest signings in Berlin and Copenhagen are strong reinforcements of the brand’s success in strategic city centre locations, and we can’t wait to see both hotels bring their style and charm to travellers in these two energetic capitals.”
Established in 2013, the Ruby brand has grown to comprise 20 hotels across major European cities as of 31 December 2024, with an additional 12 under construction, all slated to open within the next three years.
The brand already has a presence in Germany with nine hotels in cities such as Cologne, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Munich, and Stuttgart.
