InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, a brand owned by IHG, has opened its inaugural property, the InterContinental Crete, on Greece’s biggest island.
Of the hotel’s 199 rooms, Classic and Premium feature private plunge pools, balconies, walk-in showers and luxury toiletries.
Amenities include two outdoor infinity pools overlooking Mirabello Bay, three Mediterranean-inspired restaurants and a nature-inspired wellness centre and gym.
The design of the luxury property aims to reflect its natural surroundings and Greek mythology with an original sculpture representing a hybrid of the figures of the Sphinx and the Minotaur in the reception area.
The hotel is within walking distance of the coastal city of Agios Nikolaos and Crete’s capital, Heraklion. Heraklion Airport can be reached in under an hour.
InterContinental Crete general manager Nikolaos Iliadis commented: “We are thrilled to set a new standard for luxury hospitality in the Greek islands as we connect guests with our culture through cutting-edge technology, design and the talents of our diverse team members.”
