Marriott International has entered an agreement with Mullen Real Estate Capital to launch a JW Marriott all-inclusive property in Costa Elena, Guanacaste, Costa Rica.

This development is poised to be among the first of its kind for the JW Marriott brand worldwide.

Mullen Real Estate Capital president Jeff Mullen said: “MREC is thrilled to embark on this exciting collaboration with Marriott International and JW Marriott, a brand synonymous with excellence and world-class service.

“Together, we look forward to unlocking new opportunities, setting new benchmarks, and creating a future filled with limitless potential.”

Located around 49 miles from Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport, the resort aims to provide a luxury experience with 415 guest rooms, and 11 food and beverage outlets.

The property will also feature extensive water amenities spanning 44,000ft², a 10,000ft² indoor meeting space, a 16,000ft² spa, and a fitness centre.

Plans for JW Marriott-branded residences are also being considered for a nearby site.

Marriott International Caribbean and Latin America (CALA) development vice president Uriel Burak said: “We are thrilled to expand our presence in Costa Rica with the introduction of one of the first JW Marriott All-Inclusive Resorts.

“This project marks the beginning of a strategic collaboration with Mullen Real Estate Capital, a pioneer in the all-inclusive sector, within the CALA region.”

Marriott’s regional portfolio expanded with the opening of its 50th luxury hotel, Nekajui, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, in Costa Rica, last month.

The company continues to expand its growth in the country, with ten deals signed in 2024 for 1,086 rooms.

This activity has increased the development pipeline to 15 properties in Costa Rica, encompassing 1,776 rooms.

In August 2022, Marriott opened the first property under the Fairfield by Marriott brand, named the Fairfield by Marriott San Jose Airport Alajuela.
