Construction is officially underway on a new €40m ($43.5m) hotel at Croke Park, Ireland’s largest sporting venue.

The project marks a collaborative effort between the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) and leading design-and-build contractor McAleer & Rushe.

The new hotel will be operated by Ireland’s largest hotel group, the Dalata Hotel Group, under its Maldron brand.

The 200-room establishment will offer a business centre with five meeting rooms, a gym, an on-site bar and restaurant facilities.

Strategically located near Croke Park, the hotel is part of the Clonliffe Lands Masterplan and sits at the junction of Clonliffe Road and Jones’s Road.

The prime location offers guests easy access to Croke Park itself, while also placing them within walking distance of Drumcondra train station and bus routes for convenient exploration of Dublin.

The hotel will feature a traditional red-brick façade designed to complement the surrounding area.

The development prioritises environmental responsibility by aiming to achieve a BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology) rating of Very Good. This will be achieved through features such as green roofs, air source heat pumps and electric vehicle charging points.

“The new hotel will support local employment and will be a positive addition to the locality,” said GAA president Jarlath Burns.

Practically, the hotel will also support the growth of our conference activity in the newly repurposed Cusack Stand.”

“Upon completion, the Maldron Hotel Croke Park will offer high-quality guest experience, providing exceptional facilities for visitors,” said Dermot Crowley, CEO of Dalata Hotel Group.

“This new hotel in the heart of Dublin will help meet the growing demand for guest accommodation in the city, while also supporting the local economy and community.”

With construction officially underway, the Maldron Hotel Croke Park is set to open in 2026.

Dalata recently opened 188 and 268-bedroom Maldron hotels in Manchester and Liverpool, both constructed by McAleer & Rushe.
