Melco Resorts & Entertainment has launched the NORDAQ water purification and bottling solution at its global properties, including Macau, the Philippines and Cyprus.

The company claims to have become the first hotel hospitality group and integrated resort operator in the world to launch this solution across its global property portfolio.

This move is part of Melco’s aim to replace single-use plastic (SUP) bottles with refillable glass bottles across all its locations, in line with its sustainability strategy called “Rise to Go Above & Beyond”.

The initiative made progress in 2022, with NORDAQ being installed in 43% of hotel rooms and three restaurant outlets in Manila and Macau.

This has resulted in the removal of almost 1.4 million SUP bottles from City of Dreams Manila as well as the company’s Macau hotels.

An estimated 14.8 million plastic bottles are expected to be eliminated annually at normalised business volumes once the installation is fully complete and becomes operational across all of Melco’s hotels in Macau.

Melco’s newest resort, called City of Dreams Mediterranean, which opened on July 10 in Limassol, Cyprus, has also begun using the NORDAQ system.
