NCC has secured a contract to refurbish a hotel building at Elielinaukio in central Helsinki, Finland, into a new Scandic hotel offering 174 rooms.

The turnkey contract is valued at around Skr180m ($17.67m).

The hotel rooms, common areas, façade, and roof, as well as the property’s technical installations, will now undergo an overhaul.

Enhancements to the property’s energy efficiency will also be made, with the goal of achieving LEED Gold environmental certification.

Construction work is to start next month and be completed late next year.

The latest assignment, which will be included in the third quarter of 2024 under the NCC Building Nordics business area, was commissioned by investment and asset management company Exilion.

Exilion Investing head Jussi Ojamo said: “The hotel at Elielinaukio 5 is located at the heart of Helsinki, and we look forward to refurbishing the building together with our established partners Scandic and NCC.

“We want the refurbishment to further improve the guest experience and develop the property to achieve an even higher level of overall sustainability, for example, by reducing energy consumption.”

NCC Building Finland head Kati Tauriainen said: “The partnership with Exilion began when we refurbished Scandic Grand Central here in Helsinki, and it will now continue at Elielinaukio.

“The continuity in the partnership and during the development phase has enabled us to ensure the best possible conditions for a successful implementation. The development phase laid the foundation for thorough and detailed production planning.”
