InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has opened the first Holiday Inn hotel in Bengaluru, the Silicon Valley of India.

Previously known as Alila Bengaluru, the 122-room Holiday Inn & Suites Bengaluru is located in Whitefield and features 19 suites and two apartments.

IHG South West Asia head Shantha de Silva said: "The opening of this hotel is in line with our strategic expansion plans to grow the Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express hotels across India.

"These brands make up more than 85% of our development pipeline in the country."

Features of the IHG property include an open lobby, swimming pool, library and gym.

"Bangalore is one of the fastest growing cities in India, driven by the huge expansion of the technology industry."

In addition, the hotel offers an event centre, which has three indoor and outdoor spaces, consisting of a ballroom which can accommodate up to 160 guests.

Holiday Inn & Suites Bengaluru has two restaurants and a bar including the signature restaurant, Pasha Bar and Grill, and Tiffin Room that offers international dishes.

IHG recently opened Holiday Inn Cairns Harbourside on The Esplanade in Australia.

The hotel, which previously operated as Mercure Cairns Harbourside, underwent renovation before reopening as the brand’s 11th Holiday Inn in the country.
