New Castle Hotels and Resorts, Southwest Properties and Marriott International have jointly launched the renovated Algonquin Resort in New Brunswick, Canada.
The refurbished 233-room resort is the first in Canada to join the Autograph Collection, Marriott International’s portfolio of independent hotels.
In 2012, the Southwest/New Castle team purchased the hotel from the provincial government and renovated its guest rooms and public spaces by hiring Toronto-based designer Robynne Moncur of Moncur Design.
The interiors of the hotel are said reflect its Victorian origins, with a living room-style lobby with a two-sided fireplace. The lounge and Braxton’s restaurant now open to an outdoor patio.
Southwest Properties chairman and CEO Jim Spatz said: "The challenge was to preserve the authenticity of the historic hotel while simultaneously meeting modern building standards, as well as guest expectations for luxurious accommodations."
The Algonquin Resort features a new Natatorium with a three-storey waterslide and fitness centre, as well as a spa featuring a salon.
