Meliá Hotels International is planning to reopen the renovated Hotel National in Brazil before the 2016 Olympics.
The hotel was closed for several decades and the renovation project has been designed by renowned Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer, who is considered as key figure in the development of modern architecture.
The hotel has hosted artists such as Liza Minnelli, BB King, and James Brown, and hosted the Rio Film Festival.
Located in Sao Conrado, the hotel offers views of Rio de Janeiro and the San Conrado bay.
The renovated Hotel National will feature 417 rooms, with sizes ranging from 33m² to 300m².
Plans also include two presidential and 50 executive suites, a high end restaurant, and lobby bars on the penthouse terrace.

Led by Marcelo Gonçalves Limírio, an alliance between Meliá Hotels International and HN Participaçoes e Emprendedimentos will invest over €100m on the renovation project.
The Mayor of Rio, Eduardo Paes, said the Meliá will help boost tourism in the city.
Meliá Hotels International vice chairman and CEO Gabriel Escarrer said: "We are confident that under our Gran Meliá brand, it will surpass the success and excellence that it enjoyed for decades."
Meliá Hotels International currently operates 17 hotels in Brazil. The company is developing another three hotels, which are planned to open in 2018.
