Hospitality group Accor has revealed that the Sofitel Legend The Grand in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, is poised for an extensive refurbishment.
The project, spearheaded by French designer Pierre-Yves Rochon, aims to honour the hotel’s Dutch heritage while infusing it with modern French touch.
Sofitel Legend, Sofitel, MGallery and Emblems CEO Maud Bailly said: “This transformation marks a new chapter, made possible by the trust and vision of our esteemed owners, whom I sincerely thank as we step together into a new era of excellence and timeless elegance.”
A Pierre-Yves Rochon spokesperson added: “From preserving listed elements such as the revolving door, noble materials, and historic volumes to introducing the comfort and functionality of modern luxury, we extend the story of The Grand without ever freezing it in time.”
The hotel’s entrance, courtyard, lobby and central atrium will be renovated, along with its 175 rooms and suites.
In addition, the accommodations will be redesigned using eco-friendly materials and energy-efficient technologies.
The transformation of Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam is part of a broader modernisation strategy for the brand, which includes expansion to nine destinations worldwide within three years.
This includes new signings in Europe, Egypt, and India, and follows the significant refurbishment of the Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi.
The revitalisation of The Grand is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2027.
In November 2024, Accor signed an agreement with Abu Dhabi Tourism Investment Company to open the Sofitel Legend Pyramids Giza in Egypt, further cementing the brand’s global presence.
