Marriott International’s upscale lifestyle hotel chain W Hotels has expanded its global presence with the opening of first property in Japan.

Located in Midosuji Boulevard, W Osaka features a minimalist black monolith façade designed by Osaka-born architect Tadao Ando.

Amsterdam-based studio Concrete conceptualised the hotel’s interior design. The studio also designed the W London and W Verbier.

The hotel is inspired from Osaka’s streetscapes and features bright spaces, clean lines and bold colour schemes.

It has 337 rooms and suites with floor-to-ceiling windows, spacious bathrooms with rain showers and luxury amenities.

W Osaka’s dining venues include bistro-diner Oh La La, Teppanyaki MYDO restaurant, and omakase-style Sushi UKIYO.

Additionally, the hotel has 200m2 Extreme WOW Penthouse suite at 27th floor featuring artwork by Dutch textile artist Sigrid Calon, champagne bucket designed a bathtub, and a built-in DJ booth.

W Hotels has a portfolio of nearly 60 hotels across the globe.

Marriott Asia Pacific (excluding China) president Rajeev Menon said: “Osaka’s mix of culture and bold, high-energy lifestyle makes it the ideal setting for the debut of W Hotels in Japan.

“We are excited to once again be partnering with Sekisui House to welcome W Osaka to the luxury hospitality landscape here, and know international travellers and locals alike will be drawn to the hotel and its playground of possibilities.”
