Accor has opened the Sofitel Shanghai North Bund, the company’s 700th hotel in Greater China.

The 25-storey property is the newest flagship of the Sofitel brand, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2024.

Accor highlights that the year is also the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and France, and the China-France Year of Culture and Tourism. Sofitel destinations across Greater China will host French-Chinese celebrations and festivities throughout 2024.

Since 2022, Accor Greater China has opened more than one hotel per week on average and is continuing its expansion with 103 expected to open by the end of 2024, offering 14,700 new rooms.

Accor signed 150 new projects in 2023 alone and is on track to exceed that in 2024. In addition to Sofitel Shanghai North Bund, key openings in 2024 will be located in Changzhou, Chongqing, Nanjing, Taizhou, Wuhan, Wuxi and Xiamen.

In 2025, Accor will introduce two new brands to Greater China. Adagio will open its first property, with a new serviced residence destination in Chengdu, while TRIBE NATION Guiyang South will aim to bring a new urban lifestyle hospitality experience to modern and Gen Z Chinese travellers.

Accor has built a network of players in China’s hospitality sector for 40 years and master franchise agreements with these partners have been key to its exponential growth in the region.

Successful partnerships include Accor’s alliance with Huazhu, the Sunmei Hotels Group and Funyard Hotels and Resorts.

International arrivals in China grew by 264% in 2023 and the country’s top five source markets are Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, the US and Russia.
