Accor has partnered with the China Hospitality Association (CHA) to secure Green Hotel Certification for its hotels in China.

The collaboration will provide transparent and verified information about Accor's hotel operations, enabling consumers to make eco-friendly travel decisions.

The signing ceremony took place at the 8th China International Hotel Industry Conference in Haikou, Hainan Province, held on 29 November 2023.

Accor Greater China CEO Gary Rosen said: “As a hospitality leader, Accor is actively engaged in working with our partners to make China a more sustainable and healthier place to live, work, and explore. Our guests and Chinese travellers appreciate these efforts as their expectations for sustainable tourism continue to grow.

“The eco-certification process with China Hospitality Association helps us measure and manage our sustainability actions more effectively, moving us toward our long-term goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.”

CHA president Chen Xinhua said: “With the implementation of our professional Green Hotel Certification standards, Accor is proving its leadership of the tourism industry and setting an excellent example of environmental and corporate responsibility.”

The Green Hotel Certification process will evaluate each hotel's performance in terms of green operations, environment, and health and safety.

This evaluation will be conducted against national standards and through an independent process.

CHA will provide Accor's hotels with professional training, consultation and guidance to improve the capabilities and efficiencies of their operations.

Accor Greater China is currently working to cut carbon emissions and introduce a biodegradable alternative to disposable plastic toiletry bottles in hotels.

The company aims to eliminate plastic usage across the guest experience through this initiative.

Additionally, the region's hotels are prioritising the reduction of food waste and promoting environmental sensitivity among guests and employees, the company said.

The company noted that it supports its 5,500 hotels in acquiring external sustainable certifications.

Through global and local partnerships, Accor expects to achieve 100% eco-certification across its portfolio by 2026.
