Accor and Trip.com introduce eco-friendly hotel booking across China

It highlighted the willingness of Chinese travellers to engage in more sustainable travel practices with the right support and tools.

Accor and Trip.com have launched a new eco-friendly hotel booking feature in the Trip.com app for travellers in Greater China.

This addition is influenced by the insights from an educational whitepaper released by Accor, Trip.com, and McKinsey & Company last year.

It highlighted the willingness of Chinese travellers to engage in more sustainable travel practices with the right support and tools.

The new feature is expected to enable guests to opt for a reduced carbon-impact stay at Accor hotels across Greater China.

It will allow travellers to select this option on the booking page when making a reservation, prompting the hotel to adjust room amenities and services accordingly.

The measures taken by the hotels may vary from monitoring light usage, adjusting room temperatures, and limiting the daily replacement of towels and bed sheets, the company noted.

Trip.com’s new programme is expected to calculate the carbon emissions of a hotel room stay per day, based on the Paris Agreement's temperature control plan.

It will enable Trip.com to provide travellers with a larger selection of low-carbon hotels, including those within Accor's network.

Accor Greater China CEO Gary Rosen said: “Accor is proud to lead the way in sustainable hospitality with another step forward that will create awareness, engage travellers in making healthier choices, and have a lasting impact on how people travel throughout Greater China.

“Reducing carbon emissions as well as achieving transformational and sustainable change cannot be accomplished by one company alone. It takes a concerted effort of bringing many industry players together to achieve a greater outcome of reducing carbon emissions in China and around the world.”

Accor is currently introducing an eco-friendly alternative to single-use plastic bottles for toiletries, as well as seeking other ways to eliminate plastic use in their hotels.
